DRESS CODE

At North Pointe Academy of Dance, we ask that our dancers dress in a way that shows respect for themselves and respect for others. We commit to dressing in a way that benefits the art form we participate in.

Dancers should be well-groomed at the studio and performances. Dance clothing needs to be appropriate for the dance style and modest in appearance. Clothing and shoes should be clean, free of holes, functional, and fit well. Attire should help to facilitate your training not hinder it.

  • No inappropriate messages on clothing. No jeans. Shorts should cover the buttocks at all times including when bending over.

  • Hair should be out of the face and not distracting for the dancer. Hair should not have to be “fixed” during class. Hair for all classes ages six and older should be pulled away from the face and off of the neck in a bun or ponytail. This allows the instructor to see their entire spinal column and facilitates proper training.

  • For ballet, jazz, and contemporary classes, clothes should be form-fitting to allow the teacher to see your skeletal and musculature structure so they can give you corrections.

  • No jewelry unless medical or religious. A small stud earring is permitted.

Girls: Any solid-colored leotard and skirt. Pink ballet shoes & pink convertible/footed tights. Hair pulled away from the face and off of the neck, preferably in a bun.

CONDUCT CODE

In addition to the POINTE Values, students are taught the discipline of dance. One of the most important aspects of a dancer’s training is helping them to learn how to take classes and what is required to be successful as an artist physically, mentally, and emotionally. In order for the class to progress, consistent attendance is important.

DANCERS

  • Attend and be prepared for class. That means you arrive on time, with a water bottle, hair pulled up off the neck and out of the face, and dressed properly for class.

  • No gum, food, or sugary drinks in the studio. Water only is to be kept in the cubbies. Medical accommodations can be made.

  • Follow class rules.

  • Keep talking to a minimum.

  • Never run or do gymnastics in the studio unless permitted for the class/choreography.

  • Never hang on or lean on the barres.

  • Do not touch props without permission.

  • Turn off cell phones during class.

  • Put trash in its proper place.

  • Be kind and considerate to the instructor and classmates.

PARENTS

  • Bring dancers to class on time and pick them up promptly after class so the next class can begin.

  • Be careful when dropping off and picking up students, be courteous to other parents, and do not park in the drop-off zone. (Because we are a home studio in a residential area, we ask that you use the main studio entrance on the south side. Due to the nature of 1250 North and to ensure safety, cars may pull up parallel to the sidewalk, similar to a school driveline. The roundabout driveway is only for North Point Massage & Healing clients, so we ask that you do not use it. )

  • Have students ready for class BEFORE they enter the studio with the exception of their dance shoes on.

  • Make sure the dancer has had the opportunity to go to the restroom before class. Any young dancer or adaptive dancer who needs assistance with restroom breaks will need to have a parent or guardian remain on-site during class.

  • Only interrupt class if it is absolutely necessary.

  • Let Miss Jaimee know in advance when possible if a student will be absent.

  • Teach your children to never run or scream in the studio or outside the studio.

  • Write your child’s name in their shoes. This will help us both in the studio and at performances to find the owner of lost items.

  • Make an appointment to discuss any concerns. Do not stop and confront Miss Jaimee in between classes.

  • Always remember North Pointe Academy of Dance is a gossip-free environment and talking negatively about others is inappropriate behavior and benefits no one. Take issues directly to the source. Speak the truth/find out the truth. Please don’t gossip. If you have a question or need clarification about something at the studio just ask me!

  • Be the parent –express love and support for your child. Leave the coaching and constructive criticism to Miss Jaimee.
